Day 3 - Skiing Zachensee 2016

Day 3 - Skiing Zachensee 2016
Tuesday, 16 February 2016.
After a lot of snowfall last night and all of today the students had a hard day of skiing cut out for them. However all coped very well with the huge moguls and very little visibility. Groups 3 and 4 have massively improved with considerably less stacking than previous days. Group 3 (as per video) did their first Red run from top to bottom with only 2 minor controlled lowerings. They all did amazingly and were very happy with what they had achieved. Groups 1 and 2, as per usual, were going everywhere at speed.

Group 4 have improved their time down the cruisey blue. They can now fit a cruisey blue, another blue and some red runs in before lunch time. Group 3 have mainly skied reds today after starting off with the cruisey blue.

In the morning group 2 got to it and had a warm up run down the cruisey blue then proceeded to go up and down and up and down and up and down and you’ve guessed it, up and down again. Oh and somewhere in there a slalom course was encountered.

Group 1 spent the morning on mostly red and black runs, and if they were caught out on a blue run at any point they used it as a slip-road to get to some steeper stuff. At one point they encountered group 2 on their way to go down the black they had previously been on to retrieve a phone… we have been saying for years we would rather they didn’t take their phones up, and every year do they listen…

In the afternoon everyone battled with the clouds. Groups 1 and 2 joined up and skied the main red run from top to bottom, then the top part of the world cup run (at this point the moguls were about the size of a humped back whale). Then the red again then up to the top of the cruisey blue and down the T-bar run (for those of you who don’t know what this is it’s basically a nice long blue bit where maximum speeds can be achieved e.g. 64mph, at instructors speed) Then we did it again and if it were up to the students I think we would still be there now.

Groups 3 and 4 continued with their greatly improved skiing, (the instructors and teachers are missing their bicep workouts from previous days from picking up people) Some of group 3 went down the little black bit at the top of the cruisey blue, I have been told they were quite chuffed about that. Some are now parallel skiing but just improving on confidence.

Our ears are still ringing from the quiz tonight. Students played in their ferry groups and results will be revealed on presentation evening, much to the student’s annoyance. Fancy dress tomorrow…

You might have noticed that this blog is mildly different from the norm. This is due to the fact that the Geek has crashed. Normal service might resume tomorrow. If he ever wakes up from this bench....
